Child Rights Governance

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is the international human rights convention with the most ratifications. However, transforming the Convention’s vision of children’s rights and the ideals enshrined in it into state policy and practice is a difficult task. Consistent abuses of children’s rights around the world illustrate the significant disconnect between legal and political claims and children’s realities. Children’s rights frequently fall behind other competing goals on the national agenda, and children’s concerns are considered as “soft issues” restricted to sector-specific debates rather than being raised to a national priority.
