The importance of deliberate and focused engagement with men and boys in fostering gender equity and equality is being increasingly recognized. It is required not just for women’s and girls’ empowerment, but also for the transformation of social and gender norms that promote patriarchy and inequality and hurt women, girls, men, and people of other genders.
Gender discrimination, male-female stereotypes, and gender inequality are some of the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). YCSN holds “Equal Rights for Girls and Boys” theatrical competitions in schools and communities to promote gender equality among youth and children.
Children, adolescents, parents, and instructors are encouraged to consider the unequal allocation of power between men and women in various situations, including the family, school, and community. “The players convey their emotions in a certain situation, and the audience then comments on their own opinions” during the competition. It’s a great way to get kids involved and show off their skills while simultaneously highlighting gender inequities.
