Single Mother Opportunity

This project was initiated to help young single women reintegrate into society through income-generating measures. In addition, the project informs the participants about their existing rights, encourages them in their situation and provides them with legal support if necessary. Most orphanages and vulnerable children’s homes are maintained by women, the majority of whom are single and adolescent moms, as YCSN has witnessed over the years through community access and need assessment operations dealing with orphans and vulnerable children.

YCSN fills the knowledge and skills gap that teen and single mothers face in achieving the success they desire for their businesses. Rather than working hard in the business and getting little, it is critical that these individuals work hard on themselves, acquiring the tools and skills necessary for entrepreneurial development. YCSN is dedicated to empowering teenage and single moms through sensitization seminars, dialogues, workshops, and trainings, as well as the start-up of income-generating businesses such as used clothing sales, tailoring, knitting, and hair styling. RDIS, with the help of the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), has supported single mother-led projects within the project’s operational region, including but not limited to sewing, hairdressing, boutiques, and pig raising.
